Dinner Party
11 April 2011

Is it a dinner party when it’s just two couples?  Maybe it’s just dinner.  But just dinner sounds like dinner at home...
Dinner Guest
11 April 2011

Ceri and David had us over for dinner a couple nights ago.  Ceri talked about having a chance to try out some vegan cooking, as if she didn’t already know how.  She’s a great cook, and she’s eaten more than a few vegan meals.

It turns out the seasoning she had planned to use on the vegetables had whey in it, so we just used Earth Balance instead, which was fine.  More than fine actually.  Crazy how they throw whey in all willy nilly.  Do industrial food processors just have loads of whey sitting around that they can’t get rid of?  “Let’s through it in the the seasoning and margarine.  No one will know.”  It’s like toxic waste that they don’t want to dispose of properly.

She also baked tofu and put sauteed bell peppers on top.

Soba noodles with cilantro and I don’t remember what else.

For dessert she made sticky rice with mango.  So good.  We sell a frozen one at Trader Joe’s.  Ceri and David’s was better.  It was probably the fresh mangoes that were cut at perfect right angles.

Sunny and I brought the wine.  We brought the stand-by Albero Tempranillo and a new Green Fin Chardonnay that had just come into the store that morning.  I’m not completely sure that the Green Fin was vegan, but I do know that it was organic and sustainably grown.

Here’s David’s joke:

Q: How do you find a vegan at a party?
A: Oh, they’ll let you know!

Ha, ok.  It’s true.  Some vegans are obnoxious.  And we ended up talking a lot about veganism while we were there.  I mean, hey, we were eating.  Hope it wasn’t too obnoxious.

Thanks for the food.  Sorry the evening was cut short.  We’ll have to do it again real soon.
